About Us

Our History

Sisters Giving Back was founded in 2011 by Gail Hannah who enlisted a small group of like-minded women that shared her dream to make a difference in the lives of African American young ladies. Her dream was to provide a mechanism to support girls, inspire them and enrich them to become college-bound and career-ready. In 2011, her dream was realized as Sisters Giving Back was formed as a non-profit organization and launched their first Girls Conference. Since then, SGB has sponsored a Girls Conference every year at Temple University hosting over 100 young girls. SGB has also awarded at least $6,000 in scholarships each year to young women going to college for the first time.

Our Mission

Sisters Giving Back advocates on behalf of African-American young women by providing support and life-changing experiences to equip them with the necessary tools to become successful.

Fundraisers

Sisters Giving Back holds several fundraising events throughout the year to raise money for our youth conferences and annual scholarship awards. These events provide a chance to not only raise money but help build a community of people consistently giving back to the next generation of leaders.

Scholarships

Three recipients each year are awarded a scholarships to apply towards college. To be eligible the recipients must be enrolling at a U.S. accredited college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking, first-year student in the fall. Scholarships are awarded at our Annual Black Tie Gala every spring.

Youth Conferences

We hold an annual Teen Empowerment Conference at Temple University in October providing workshops focusing on confidence, fashion, and social media. The girls participate in skits and other activities that boost self-esteem, self-confidence, and encourage public speaking.
